Never Have I Ever

I’m sure we have all played this game a time… or ten… as adults, so what better way to get the night’s festivities started than with a round of Never Have I Ever? To play, you must sit in a circle with a bottle of liquor and an allotted amount of shot glasses for the participants. The object of the game is for each person to proclaim something they HAVE NOT done while those who HAVE done this act are obligated to take a shot. For example: If I said, “Never have I ever made love in a public place” or “Never have I ever gone skydiving”, I would have to take a shot, because I have not done either of those things. But, those who have would have to take a shot. It’s such a great way to have fun…and learn things about friends/family that you may have not known (provided everyone is honest).

Snowman Building Contest

Alright, for those who live in an area that has inches of snow on the ground come Christmas time, this game is sure to end in laughs. Everyone needs to bundle up and head out to the yard. Two will go at a time and there will be a judge. Using a stopwatch, give the participants 3 minutes to make the best snowman they can in the allotted time. Whoever has the least fortunate looking snowman must take a shot. Make sure to wear gloves!

Shots Checkers

Normally, this game comes already boxed up with the board, 13 clear and 13 frosted shot glasses, and a set of instructions. Players play an exciting game of checkers where shot glasses filled with liquor are used in lieu of red and black plastic checkers pieces.

Jenga

Most of us have a Jenga game in our homes and already know how to play. The object of this game, though, is to take shots! As the tower crumbles, whomever was the culprit must take a shot!

Christmas Gift Wrap Relay

The Hot Toddy (also known as the Hot Tottie or Hot Totty) is typically made of liquor (usually whiskey, bourbon, or rum), water (or tea), honey, and fresh lemon slices – served hot. Some believe the hot concoction relieves the symptoms of their cold and flu. Even if you’re not coughing, feverish, and weak from the flu, the Hot Toddy is perfect in the cold weather as nightcap or refreshment to warm the soul.

Preparation:

Prepare a cup/mug of your favorite herbal tea or use 4 oz. of hot water

Add 2 oz. whiskey (I usually use Jack Daniels or a capful of Bacardi 151 when I’m feeling daring)

Add 1 tablespoon honey

Add 2 fresh lemon slices (optional yet effective)

Add 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Add 1 cinnamon stick (optional but yummy)

So the next time you have an itchy, scratchy throat or you’re just feeling in the mood for a warm drink by the fire, grab your ingredients and combine them for comfort and soothing. While it may not be a real CURE, it definitely helps to relieve symptoms. I know, personally, they have worked for me and given me solace from the sniffles, coughs, and sneezes of a cold or flu. Oh, and lastly, don’t forget- this is a cure for ADULTS only! Mix it up and enjoy!

As your guests pour in from the nippy outdoors, hanging their coats, and greeting with hugs as the aroma of turkey fills the air, what better way to get the Thanksgiving festivities started than with the perfect cocktail? There are so many cocktail recipes to choose from, but I have included my top 5. They are sure to warm the soul and present you with the coveted Hostess with the Mostest title of accomplishment.

1. Hot Buttered Rye

Sure to warm your guests and get them in the Holiday mood, this Hot Buttered Rye will have guests all warm and toasty. You will need 1 cup heavy cream, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/4 cup rye whiskey, 6 tablespoons hot water, 2 tablespoons ginger liqueur, and freshly grated nutmeg for this yummy addition to your Thanksgiving feast. You will beat heavy cream and maple syrup with an electric mixer at medium speed 2 minutes or until consistency of softened butter. Cover and chill 1 to 24 hours. Pour rye whiskey, hot water, and ginger liqueur into a 6-oz. heatproof cup. Top off with about 1/4 cup maple-cream mixture and your freshly grated nutmeg. ENJOY!

2. Pomegranate Sangria

For something a little cooler, this recipe is sure to deliver. You will need:
1 bottle fruity red wine
2 cups pomegranate juice
1/2 cup brandy
1/2 cup Triple Sec
1/4 cup simple syrup (equal amounts sugar and water, heated until sugar dissolves, cooled)
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
1 large orange, halved and thinly sliced
1 cup strawberries, thinly sliced
1 cup red grapes, sliced in ½
Combine all of your yummy ingredients in a pitcher, cover, and refrigerate for 4-48 hours before serving. Serve with decorative straws!

3. Classic Eggnog

Who doesn’t love the classic eggnog. You can buy it pre-mixed from your local liquor store. But for the brave, you can make your own. What you will need for this amazing eggnog recipe is: 2 cups heavy cream, ½ cup sugar, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, 4 large eggs, and ¾ cup Brandy. In a medium saucepan, bring the heavy cream, sugar, and nutmeg just to a simmer. In a blender, blend the eggs on low speed for 1 minute. Gradually add hot cream mixture. Blend until frothy. Add the brandy and blend to combine. Serve warm!

4. Cider Jack Cocktails

Cider is a staple drink for Thanksgiving and Fall. For this delectable holiday treat, you will shake 2 oz. of applejack liqueur, 1 oz. lemon juice, and a splash of grenadine. Pour over an ice-filled glass and top with hard apple cider. Don’t forget your cinnamon stick as the perfect accent for this drink.

5. Spiced Holiday Punch

The perfect drink for toasting! This recipe calls for 6 cups apple juice, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg,12 cloves,1 2-inch piece peeled fresh ginger, 1 cinnamon stick, 6 cups of cranberry juice, and ginger ale or sparkling wine. Then, you will bring 6 cups apple juice, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, 12 cloves, 1 (2-inch) piece peeled fresh ginger and 1 cinnamon stick to a simmer over medium heat. Lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain, cool and chill. In a large pitcher, combine with 6 cups cranberry juice. Fill glasses partway with juice mixture and top off with ginger ale or sparkling wine. Your guests will love this perfect Thanksgiving cocktail!

You only need one of these – two at the max! Composed of Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Jose’ Cuervo, and Johnnie Walker, this shot gets straight to the point! If you’re going to take more than one, please eat first. I’ve heard of a night spent in the bushes outside of a bar because of just two of these shots on an empty stomach.
