The Difference Between Talking to Beer Drinkers and Non-Beer Drinkers

Quick!  What’s your favorite beer?  Is it Hoppy?  Is it a Stout?  Is it light?  Does it taste better in a bottle or can?  Is it cheap?  If you couldn’t answer all of those questions in a matter of 5 seconds, chances are you are what we so affectionately call a “non-beer” drinker.  Don’t be offended, a few taste tests and BeerRightNow orders (as well as a browsing of the blogs on this site) and you’ll be a seasoned professional in no time.

If you were able to easily answer the above questions, you are undoubtedly a Beer Drinker.  Congratulations.  We’d give you a crown, but Corona said they’d sue us.  We’re not really looking for a lawsuit so, just pretend.  :)  Seasoned Beer Drinkers know their beer, and they know it well.  They know it so well, they know the different types, flavors, which kind pairs with which food, and when it’s time to put in another BeerRightNow order.

When having conversation, there are a few true ways to determine if you are talking to a beer drinker, or a poser.  For one, a real beer drinker will have a rallying argument with you about different types and the choice you have made.  They will also not hesitate when ordering something to drink.  They also usually have cute nicknames like “Natty Light” or “Bud” or things like that.  A non seasoned beer drinker will not only not know what they want to drink, but they’ll oh so wrongly pronounce the full name.  “I’ll have a nice glass of Natural Light.”  (Calm down, that was just an example.  We know nobody drinks Natty Light except college kids who are too poor to afford the more quality beers.)

Admittedly, I don’t consider myself much of a seasoned drinker.  I’m pretty simple to please.  I will order probably one of two beers: Bud Light Lime or Budweiser.  Now, for you seasoned drinkers, that probably doesn’t make sense.  But to me, it does!  That’s another thing about non beer drinkers.  When talking to them, they cannot explain why they like a beer except that it tastes good.

So next time you are in a heated alcoholic discussion, watch for the signals and call the other person’s bluff!  Cheers.
