Where Did You Wake Up? (In Mexico!)

I’m sure many of you reading this article can probably share in the sentiment of getting drunk and waking up the next morning where you are and how you got there. I have certainly had the displeasure of finding myself in a dorm room that did not belong to me and suffered from the shame of asking the guy laying next to me where my undergarments are.  Everyone should experience this humiliation at least once, right?  I mean seriously, if you don’t have an embarrassing story of how your night of fun led to a morning of confusion, you haven’t lived!  Of course, this is a minor mishap; imagine if you randomly woke up in Mexico!  I can envision it now…

Okay, so you open your eyes, you hear mariachi bands in the background, sit up and realize you aren’t in your bed, and on the floor you see a sombrero, some beads, and an empty bottle of Jose Cuervo. Gosh darnit, you’re in freaking Mexico! How the heck did this happen? Chances are that empty bottle on the floor had something to do with it. The last thing you remember is taking body shots off of a hot single that promised a night cap that would do you better than your cheating gf/bf that led you to the bar in the first place could do.  Next thing you know, like the rest of us, you are frantically searching for something to cover yourself up that doesn’t look shameful.  So what do you do?

Well, at this point, it is too late to panic; my suggestion is to enjoy your day! If the person you rendezvoused with was good enough to go home with, maybe they are good enough to have an actual conversation that doesn’t involve the slurring of words. Of course, enjoyment is contingent upon you first figuring out how you got there and how you are going to get home. Without these two pieces of information, your time will be monopolized with trying to make it back to your parents’ house without them noticing (or gf/bf house).

I wish there was more to say about waking up in another place or country, but the fact of the matter is, it is really just an experience if it happens. You can’t take it back, so you might as well live with it and not let it make you feel ashamed.  However, I suggest if you party in one country, and just so happen to wake up in another, you should probably reevaluate your drinking habits and the level of trust in your friends. Until then, adios amigos!
