A hot toddy is certainly a seasonal favorite for those looking to warm up when it gets chilly outside. When there is a nip in the air, you might notice bars and restaurants offering hot toddies on their menus, but it is also a pretty easy drink to prepare on your own at home. At its most basic, a hot toddy is made of whiskey, honey, cinnamon, cloves and lemon. There are an endless amount of possibilities for variations, that are not only delicious but some can even make you feel better when sick.

These old school, natural remedies have been passed down from generation to generation, and are still a favorite for many even today. When feeling sick, adding certain ingredients to your toddy can even have some immediate health benefits, like soothing a sore throat, aiding in decongestion or calming a tough cough. Brandy, for example, is a natural decongestant, and will loosen up mucus and help relieve some of the pressure in your head.

Honey of course is known to relieve a sore throat, by coating and soothing the throat when mixed into a warm beverage. Lemon can provide benefits to fight off cold symptoms because it is so rich in Vitamin C. Lemon is also rich in potassium, magnesium and copper, so it will help you regain some strength after feeling a bit under the weather. Turmeric is also another well known healthy ingredient that is beneficial when sick. Turmeric is a natural but powerful anti-inflammatory, so it is especially helpful for joint pain and stomach pain. Classic Hot Toddy

This traditional recipe for a hot toddy is perfect for when you are feeling a little sick, or perfectly healthy. You will need the following ingredients,

- 1 ¼ Ounces Of Whiskey

- 1 Cup Of Boiling Water

- 1 Tbsp Of Honey

- 3 Lemon Wedges

- 1 Cinnamon Stick

Add the boiling water to a mug, along with the whiskey and honey. Next add lemon juice and the cinnamon stick. Let the mix steep and drink when cool enough.

Hot Toddy For Colds

This recipe will offer some relief from many common cold symptoms, including congestion and body aches. You will need the following ingredients,

- 1 Cup Of Hot Water

- 1 Tbsp Of Honey

- ¼ Of A Lemon

- 3 Whole Cloves

- ½ Of A Cinnamon Stick

- 1 ½ Ounces Of Brandy

To make this drink, pour the boiling water into a mug. Add to it the honey, cloves and cinnamon stick. After that, just let the mixture sit until it cools down a bit. From there, add the lemon juice, the brandy and then it is ready to drink.

Hot Toddy For Sore Throats

This recipe will help soothe a sore throat.

– 1-2 Ounces Of Brandy

- 1 Tsp Of Turmeric Paste

- 1 Tsp Of Honey

- 1 Lemon

- 1 Cinnamon Stick

- 3 Cloves

You will first want to mix your turmeric with a little bit of water to create a paste. After that you can pour the lemon juice, honey and turmeric paste to a mug, then stir. Fill the mug about halfway with boiling water, and then next the brandy. Top off with hot water, as well as the cinnamon and cloves, and enjoy!
