1. Candles:

The most difficult part of candle making in your old bottles involves cutting the glass. For best results use a glass scorer, followed by treating the bottle with rapid heat and cold. Once you’ve broken the glass, sand the edges, and you’ll have the perfect container to make a new candle. All you need is a wick, wax, and fragrance oil. 

2. Floral Arrangement:

Wine bottles, beer bottles, or even hard liquor handles can make an adorable vase for flowers. You might consider painting the bottles or tying some ribbon around the neck to create a more finished look.  Add, some pebbles, soil, and seeds and you can even grow your own flowers in the bottle.

3. Lighting:

This option is less of a project and more of a simple display solution. Use your favorite old bottles filled with string lights to create a unique centerpiece. This can be a really pretty outdoor decor option as well. You can use battery-operated fairy lights in a few wine bottles to light up a porch or patio for a nighttime kickback. For a slightly different take, you can also try repurposing an old handle into the base of a lamp.

4. Savings Funds:

An old bottle can be a perfect budget piggy bank. Depending on the size of the bottle, you can choose to save a little or a lot. Throw your loose change in the bottle or maybe even some cash, and when you’re ready to spend it, smash it open. You can get creative by choosing to save for a specific goal and decorating the exterior of the bottle to represent your investment plans. For example, try decoupaging an old handle with photos of your dream vacation destination. Set a little aside each week, and hopefully one day you’ll crack open the bottle to redeem the funds. 

5. Chalkboards:

Cover your old wine bottle in chalk paint, and you’ll have the perfect mini chalkboard for your kitchen or home bar. Use the board to display fun quotes, and incorporate it into your decor scheme. You can also use the chalkboard to show guests what you’re “currently pouring,” and update it based on your current home wine list. This can be an especially cute touch for dinner parties.

A twist on our favorite candy-themed boardgame, set the game up as normal but every time you pick a colored-square card, follow the following drinking rules:

BLUE CARD- guys drink
PURPLE CARD- girls drink
ORANGE CARD- player who picked the card drinks
YELLOW CARD- player who picked the card picks someone to drink
DOUBLE CARD- player who picked the card drinks and picks one other player to drink as well
PEOPLE CARDS- player must choose a random person/celebrity and other players must ask YES or NO questions until they guess the person. Whoever wins this challenge gets to choose who drinks.
PLACES CARDS- player must choose TRUTH or DARE and the person to the left can ask a question or dare them to do something. The player may opt out by downing the rest of their drink.

2. Battle Shots

You don’t need the game or pieces for this one, but you will need a few other items:
-12 shot glasses (size doesn’t matter)
-a divider of some sort for the middle of the table (you can even stack some books- just make sure the other team can’t see where your battleshots are)
-a marker
-light colored table cloth you can write on

Use a ruler or book to create a battle ship board on the table cloth. Label the x-axis with letters and the y-axis with numbers, place your shots and start calling out coordinates. If you have a shot on B5 and the other team guesses “B5″, you must sink your battleshot- into your mouth. Keep the shots at 1 ounce for maximum play time.

3. Twisted-er

The game of Twister is already hard enough when you’re sober. Make the rule if you fall you drink, and its hilariously impossible. Use food coloring in shots of light colored liquor to make it even more interesting. If you miss a red dot, drink a red shot.

4. Pictionary

This game gets more and more fun as it goes along. Have everyone write phrases on separate index cards. 20 phrases per person is good. It makes it fun to put inappropriate stuff on the cards, but obviously, know your audience. Phrases could be things like “Does a bear scat in the woods?” or “She’s not the brightest crayon in the box.” Divide into teams and start picking cards to draw for the other team to guess. Set a timer for 1 minute and if they haven’t guessed the phrase, they drink and your team gets a point. Whoever has the most points wins!

The Sourtoe Cocktail

So, yes, you are seeing a preserved toe in a glass with alcohol. This weird Yukon cocktail is a staple in Dawson, where the drink came to be back in 1973. Legend says that over the years, nine toes have been accidentally ingested. That’s bad news for any number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that it evidently costs $2,500 to swallow a toe—it’s a penalty, you see. For the record, it appears as if the liquor you drink with your toe isn’t nearly as important as the toe itself. By the way, if you want to become a true “sourtoer,” the toe has to touch your mouth as you drink. Ugh…

The Cement Mixer

This is a real drink. People actually put this concoction into their mouths, they let it touch their tongues, and then they swallow it. Well, no, that’s a lie. First, they shake their heads fervently and enthusiastically, then they swallow. See, the Cement Mixer is a combination of Baileys and lime juice. Let that settle in for a second. All right. So, you mix those two together, then you take the shot and shake your head, right? As you shake your head, the Baileys and lime juice will congeal into a lumpy, gooey mess—about the same consistency and texture as wet cement.

Three Penis Wine

This is kind of cheating because this isn’t a cocktail, it’s just a drink. It’s a wine, actually. Well, you can call it wine. Yeah, it probably qualifies. It’s hard to believe that even the most enthusiastic wino would drink Three Penis Wine, though. It’s not just a cute name. The process used to make the wine includes three penises. Specifically, it includes a dog penis, a seal penis, and a deer penis. Some variations substitute the seal penis for snake penis.

The Bloody Brain

Oh, this drink. Baileys is back at it. On the surface, the ingredients that go into this cocktail aren’t too bad. In addition to the Baileys, there’s peach schnapps and grenadine. Simple, right? Innocent. No big deal. Except, there’s one problem: once it mixes with the schnapps, the Baileys goes crazy. It automatically curdles, creating a horror that looks exactly like a bloody brain. Thanks, grenadine.

The Smoker’s Cough

Stick to Top Shelf Spirits

The last thing you want is to earn a reputation as a skinflint among your friends. Invite your buddies to belly up to your home bar and serve them the cheap stuff—within the week, you’ll start hearing rumors about your miserly ways. No one’s going to come over just to drink bottom-shelf swill.

Your bar accessories serve two purposes: to enhance the drinking experience and to enhance the appearance of the drinks. Stones and rocks keep drinks cool without watering them down. Spherical steel balls, once chilled, do the same thing. Stone coasters, which you can also chill, allow beer bottles and other drinks to maintain their temperature while protecting your furniture. Win/win!

As for your glasses, don’t skimp. You aren’t putting forth this much effort just to serve cocktails in mismatched glassware. This isn’t the place for juice glasses or Mason jars. Save that for Pinterest. Invest in quality highball glasses, tumblers, wine glasses, and shot glasses. In the case of cocktail glasses and whiskey tumblers, you can often find glassware that includes a cooling stone in the bottom of the glass, thus killing two birds with one … stone.

The last step in transforming your bar from trashy to classy AF is to pick the perfect signature drink for your home hotspot, something you can make for visitors who don’t know what they want. To create an atmosphere of high class and sophistication, it’s best if you cherry-pick recipes that were popular in bygone eras. Avoid the appletinis, the Cosmopolitans, and the endless hipster “updates” on classic drinks.

Pumpkin Spice Kahlua

Ingredients:

2 oz Kahlua

1.5 oz simple syrup

Milk to fill

Simple Syrup:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp nutmeg

2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

Simple Syrup:

Combine water and sugar together in a pot and place on medium heat until the water boils. Reduce the heat to a simmer and add the spices. Simmer for 8-10 minutes, until the sugar has dissolved.

Drink:

Place ice, kahlua, simple syrup and a splash of milk together in a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Pour in a cocktail glass over ice.

Caramel Appletini

Ingredients:

1 oz vanilla vodka

1 oz sour apple schnapps

½ oz butterscotch schnapps

Instructions:

Combine alcohol in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Pour in a chilled martini glass.

Cinnamon (White) Russian

Ingredients:

2/3 oz kahlua

1 2/3 oz vodka

1 oz milk

1/2 oz simple syrup

Simple Syrup:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

2 tsp cinnamon

So how do you make these excellent party favors?

Step 1: Boil the water

You want to make sure you have a clear ice cube for optimal effect,so use filtered, boiled water. This will prevent imperfections in the ice. Once you’ve boiled the water let it cool completely (we’re not trying to cook anything here).

You can add any kind of fruit, herb or flavoring to the cubes depending on what kind of cocktails you are making.

Why not try some lemon zest infused ice cubes to add to gin and tonic? Or lime zest for margaritas on the rocks.

Step 1: Choose your flavors

Decide what kinds of flavors you want to achieve. Are you looking for something sweet or spicy? Step 5: Wait

Leave the infusion somewhere safe and dark for a few days. Depending on the infusion and how strong you want it you can leave it for 2 days to a week. Keep an eye on it throughout the week, you can always taste it to see how the flavor is coming along.

Step 6: Strain the Fruit

Now that the vodka has the perfect flavor you are ready to strain it. Use a regular kitchen strainer for most fruits, or if you used fine herbs you can use a cheesecloth or even a coffee filter. Make sure you strain it so that you keep the desired flavor.

Step 7: Enjoy!

You are ready to make your own cocktails or sip your infused vodka on ice. Enjoy!

1 oz Campari

1 oz Vermouth

Sprite
