Out of the gate, in-flight drinking!
Anyone who has flown on a plane and drank while doing so can attest to the outlandish fees that airlines charge for alcohol. One might think that because of the profits airlines make on selling drinks one can assume that lugging booze on the plane for in-flight consumption is is prohibited. However, there are a very simple way to make it possible for you to save money and BYOB at 30,000 feet!
First, remember the under 4 oz. rule?
Whiskey is a liquid … so is any alcohol… see where we’re going with this?
When bringing liquids on a plane, they have to be in small, travel sized bottles to avoid being thrown into the bin of contraband. Because alcohol is a liquid, it follows this rule as well. If your bottle is less than 4 oz., you are good to take it on the plane. Shampoo or vodka… Conditioner or Bailey’s? if it fits in the little ziplock baggy, it comes along with you!
Just remember, once you get on the plane, you’re NOT allowed to open the bottle yourself. Doing so could result in you paying a fine or a disapproving look from the flight crew. We’re more worried about the latter so ask a friendly crew member to open those little bottles for you and serve them in a cup.
*I’d have a little extra cash on hand for generous tips. You’d be surprised what these tips will get you in terms of drink upgrade! you’re free to slowly move around the cabin and remember to behave ![]()
