Ah, pamplemousse—so much fun to say! It is, of course, the French word for “grapefruit,” and as we’re sure you’ll agree, everyone should say “pamplemousse” instead, for the entirety of forever. While many cocktails call themselves by this tongue-pleasing term, they are merely masquerading, and you should not believe them. No, if you’re in the mood for a simple drink that doesn’t pack a lot of punch but still tastes delicious, this is the Pamplemousse for you.

Recipe:

1 ounce of dry gin
½ of an ounce of elderflower liqueur
1 ounce of freshly squeeze grapefruit juice
½ of an ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 large basil leaf for the garnish
Ice

Grab your cocktail shaker, fill it with ice, then add everything except the basil and shake vigorously. Strain the mixture into a coupe glass that you’ve chilled, then float the basil leaf on top.

An Americano

The Americano is simplicity itself. It’s low-key, laid-back, and it has less alcohol than most traditional cocktails. It lends itself quite well to sipping, especially on a long, hot afternoon in the summer. It’s a popular cocktail for the Fourth of July, as well, but to be honest, that’s mostly because of the color. You won’t want to reserve this for just one holiday. If you’ve never tried it, we implore you to give it a taste.

Recipe:
1 ounce of Campari
1 ounce of vermouth
Club soda
1 orange twist for garnish

Fill a highball or rocks glass with ice, then pour in the vermouth and the Campari. Top it off with the club soda, then place the orange twist wherever you please.

Campari and Soda

Campari is a popular choice for low-key cocktails with equally low alcohol content. It goes down lighter than other liquors, it mixes well, and you get a nice, warm buzz from it without feeling the need to get rip-roaringly drunk. Everybody needs a comfortable, relaxed evening sometimes. A cocktail like this is particularly helpful if you don’t enjoy drinking a lot, but you don’t want to be awkward while you’re out with a group. You’re welcome.

Recipe:

2 ounces of Campari
Soda water
Lime or lemon wedge for garnish

Fill a highball glass with ice, pour in the Campari, then top it off with the soda water. Garnish it with your citrus wedge of choice and serve or sip yourself.

Sangria

Sangria is a lovely, lightweight punch. In theory, it contains a lot of alcohol, but the batches are so big, and there are so many ingredients, the content is safely diluted. That means you can enjoy glass after glass of this, and believe us, you’ll want to. Bear in mind that you can substitute any kinds of wine, fruits, and juices you like. Don’t be put off by the massive ingredients list, either; the execution itself is effortless.

Recipe:

½ of a cup of brandy
¼ of a cup of lemon juice
1/3 of a cup of frozen lemonade concentrate
1/3 of a cup of orange juice
1 bottle of dry red wine
½ of a cup of triple sec
1 sliced orange
1 sliced lemon
1 sliced lime
¼ of a cup of white sugar, optional
8 maraschino cherries
2 cups of carbonated water, optional

Get a large punch bowl or pitcher and add everything except the club soda. Just let the citrus slices and cherries float. Place it in the fridge overnight. If you’re using the water, add it just before you serve the punch.

Cascade Apricot Ale

Classified as a wild ale, the Cascade Apricot Ale knows quite a bit about pairing sweet fruit flavors with the toasty bitterness of hops and barley. Apricot has a subtler sweetness than, say, peaches or similar fruit. They also have an earthy note that beautifully complements the signature taste of a traditional ale. The alcohol itself doesn’t lose any of its darkness or taste, nor does the flavor disappear beneath the apricot, which is practically just a hint, anyway. It’s a pairing to consider if you’re into home brewing and decide to experiment with a fruit-based beer.

Raspberry Eisbock

Is there any alcohol that isn’t made ten times better with the addition of raspberries? Eisbock is a bock beer, of course, but it’s extremely potent, incredibly full bodied, and quite malty. That combination, in particular, mixes well with the raspberries. They lighten the somewhat heavy brew, and offer a tart, fresh counter to the rich malt flavor of the Eisbock. Look for a beer like this if you love dark brews but don’t enjoy drinking anything too heavy. Fruit is a fantastic equalizer.

Sliced Nectarine IPA

Nectarines don’t get enough attention, do they? They’re tarter than peaches, which is why they work so well with IPA. The sliced nectarines cut some of the bitterness, but they also benefit from the toasty taste of so many IPAs. Home brewers, remember this flavor pairing. Believe it or not, it’s not altogether difficult to add fruity flavors to your own tasty creations.

New Glarus Strawberry Rhubarb

You’re used to strawberry rhubarb pie, right? After all, it’s a summertime staple. Now, imagine that flavor in beer. The strawberries provide plenty of fresh summertime sweetness—protip for home brewers: think about using wild strawberries, instead—while the rhubarb offers an earthy tartness that balances out the strawberries and heightens the taste of the malt. Pretty magical, huh?

This is … well, this is definitely a drink. The funny thing is that once you see the ingredients list, it kind of starts to make sense. Everything sort of goes together. It’s a popular drink at LGBTQ+ bars (trust us, we know) and bachelorette parties (why?), but honestly, it’s so tasty that you might want to try it yourself. It could even become your new favorite cocktail—if only in the privacy of your own home.

Recipe:

Two parts of butterscotch Schnapps
One part of Baileys

Just layer both liquors in a shot glass and guzzle.

Adios Motherfucker

This bright blue concoction looks so sweet and innocent on the outside, but it’s like a glass full of bad decisions. You know why it’s called an Adios Motherfucker? Because after you get through a single cocktail, it’s goodnight, moon. You won’t remember to drink water once you get home, so the best advice we can give you is to place a water cooler beside your bed before you pass out for the night.

Recipe:

½ of an ounce of vodka
½ of an ounce of rum
½ of an ounce of tequila
½ of an ounce of gin
½ of an ounce of Blue Curacao liqueur
2 ounces of sweet and sour mix
2 ounces of 7-UP

Chill a glass, fill it up with ice, then add everything except the 7-UP—save that to top off the drink. Give it a little stir, take your first sip, and say adios, motherfu—oh, sorry.

Sex on My Face

Interesting name, no? Interesting drink, too. It’s not quite the Big Glass of Bad Decisions the previous cocktail is, but almost. It’s potent enough that, yeah, you might just end the night trying to … well, never mind. You’ll have to see for yourself. If you remember what happens after your first Sex on My Face, remember to tell us the story.

Recipe:

½ of an ounce of Yukon Jack Canadian whiskey
½ of an ounce of coconut rum
½ of an ounce of Southern Comfort peach liqueur
½ of an ounce of banana liqueur
1 splash of cranberry juice
1 splash of pineapple juice
1 splash of orange juice

Fill a tall glass with ice, add all the ingredients, and stir gently. Enjoy!

Angel’s Tit

Hee hee hee! No, but really, this is actually a pretty tasty cocktail. Sweet, yes, it’s terribly sweet, and it contains heavy cream, so it’s quite rich, as well. However, once you see it made, garnish and all, you’ll understand the reason for the name. Frankly, we think it’s kind of adorable, but it also makes us giggle.

Recipe:

¼ of an ounce of Creme de Cacao
¼ of an ounce of maraschino liqueur
¼ of an ounce of heavy cream
Maraschino cherries for garnish

Layer all of the ingredients in a shot glass, exactly in order. Let the mixture chill for half an hour, then garnish with a cherry before serving.

The Catcher in the Rye

It’s no surprise that this cocktail derives its name from J. D. Salinger’s masterpiece on teenage angst and youthful anger. It’s also no surprise that the cocktail contains a lot of whiskey. We’re not kidding. Drink with caution, or else you’re apt to start thinking that you’re Holden Caufield. Put down that cigarette and stop sneering at girls, Holden.

Recipe:

1 ½ ounces of rye
1 ounce of Amontillado sherry
½ of an ounce of Torani Amer
¼ of an ounce of Grand Marnier
1 dash of bitters

Place all the ingredients in your cocktail shaker, after adding ice. Stir it, don’t shake it. Strain the mixture into a glass and garnish with a twist of orange.

The Shirley Temple Black

You all know about the Shirley Temple, right? It’s as precious and sweet as the adorable little imp for whom it’s named. Shirley Temple was America’s sweetheart, particularly during the Depression, when the nation needed someone to cheer up their collective sorrows. It’s no wonder the curly-haired starlet inspired such a sweet, virginal cocktail. But then Shirley got married and became Shirley Temple Black, which inspired a cocktail of another kind. Basically, it’s just a Shirley Temple with actual alcohol in it—usually dark rum (also a play on the name, you see), but honestly, you can use anything you like.

Recipe:

1 ½ ounces of dark rum
1 ½ ounces of cranberry juice
7-UP
Maraschino cherries

Grab a tall glass and fill it with ice. Pour in the rum, then the juice, and top it off with 7-UP. Add the cherries for garnish.

The Tequila Mockingbird

Get it? Like To Kill a Mockingbird! Isn’t that terribly clever? Readers are a punny bunch. We have to say, however, that this is also a ridiculously delicious cocktail. It has a serious bite, thanks to jalapeno, but the heat can help stave off your hangover before it even sets in, which is excellent considering that there’s tequila involved here.

Recipe:

2 ounces of Patron Silver Tequila
1 ½ ounces of watermelon-basil puree
¾ of an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice
¾ of an ounce of agave syrup
1 jalapeno pepper slice

Muddle the jalapeno in your cocktail shaker, then fill the shaker with ice and add the rest of your ingredients. Shake it up for about ten seconds, then double strain it into a rocks glass that you’ve filled with ice.

The Appellation Cooler

It’s always fun when you come across a drink that’s ‘grammable as well as tasty. Because wine-based cocktails are popular in many of today’s hipster-oriented and farm-to-table restaurants, the cocktails are getting quite comely. The names are pretty cool, too, as in the case of the Appellation Cooler. It’s light, fresh, and herbal—the basil vermouth is easy to make, by the way; you just fill a jar with sprigs of loosely packed basil, then pour in the vermouth and let it sit for an hour. After that, strain it into a new jar and put in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Recipe:

8 ounces of dry white wine
4 ounces of Cocci Americano
4 ounces of basil vermouth
4 teaspoons of apricot liqueur
4 ounces of chilled dry sparkling wine
Ice
Slices of seedless cucumber for garnish

Pour the dry wine, Cocci Americano, vermouth, and apricot liqueur into a pitcher, then fill it with ice and stir to combine. Now stir in the sparkling wine and garnish with the slices of cucumber.

Everything’s Coming Up Rosé

As you can probably imagine, this cocktail is rosé-based. In fact, it’s sangria, but we promise that it’s unlike any sangria you’ve ever tasted. It includes Aperol, which adds a pleasant bitterness, but there’s also a delicious, delicate hibiscus tea that pleases the palate so much, it’s easy to go through several glasses of this without even realizing it.

Recipe:

8 ounces of dry rosé, chilled
4 ounces of Lillet rosé
4 ounces of brewed hibiscus tea, chilled
2 ounces of freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 ounces of simple syrup
1 ounce of Aperol
4 ounces of club soda, chilled
Ice
Sliced strawberries, lemon wheels, and halved grapefruit wheels for garnish

Prepare a punch bowl or pitcher, and pour in the rosé, the Lillet, the tea, the lemon juice, the syrup, and the Aperol. Add ice and stir, then stir in the soda and the fruit.

Late Harvest Wine and Campari Cocktails

This cocktail was made for grilling season. If you’re ruling the grill, you’ll want one in hand. If you’re handling everything else, you’ll want several. It’s refreshing and mellow with a bittersweet flavor that’s sure to keep both you and your guests coming back to the punch bowl. Seriously, try serving this at your next BBQ. We swear it will be a hit.

Recipe:

3 ¾ cups of sweet, late-harvest white wine, like Riesling
2 ¼ cups of freshly squeezed orange juice
1 cup of Campari
Ice

In a punch bowl or pitcher, pour in the white wine, orange juice, and Campari. Stir gently and refrigerate for two hours or so. When you’re ready to serve the drinks, pour them over ice.

White Peach and Gin Fizz

The poor Gin Fizz. It’s been thoroughly debauched by hipsters, probably because it lends itself so well to a variety of flavors. We can’t really say anything bad about peaches, white or otherwise, since peaches are delicious. However, they also have their place, and their place is not in a Gin Fizz. If you want to get the hipster out of this particular cocktail, just go the traditional route. Make yourself a Fizz the way Fizzes were meant to be made.

Recipe:

1 ounce of club soda
2 ounces of Plymouth gin
1 ounce of lemon juice
¾ of an ounce of simple syrup
1 egg white

Grab a Collins or Fizz glass, add the club soda, then set it aside. Add everything else into your cocktail shaker, but don’t add ice yet—just shake it for 10 seconds or so. Now add a few ice cubes and shake vigorously, then double strain the mixture into your glass.

Charred Pineapple Mojito

This mojito is so damn extra. Half of the stuff in there isn’t even necessary. We cannot imagine cooking anything in order to enjoy a drink. We have a hard enough time making our own simple syrup, thank you very much. Point blank, pineapples are not needed in mojitos. Charred pineapples are definitely unnecessary. To banish the hipster back to whence it came, leave out the pineapple and stick to the lime.

Recipe:

10 fresh mint leaves
½ of a lime, cut into four wedges
2 tablespoons of white sugar, just to taste
1 cup of ice cubes
1 ½ ounces of white rum
½ of a cup of club soda

Muddle the mint and one lime wedge in the bottom of a sturdy glass, then add two more lime wedges as well as the sugar and muddle once more. Don’t strain. Fill the glass with ice, pour the rum over it, then top it off with club soda. Stir, give it a taste, and add more sugar if you need to, then garnish with the last lime wedge.

Lavender Collins

There’s no question that the Lavender Collins is a gorgeous drink. Just look at it. However, it also tastes like lavender. Since lavender is a calming herb, we cannot help but feel that mixing it with alcohol is basically like drinking a coma. Do yourself a favor. Forget about the hipster additions, enjoy a Tom Collins, and if you’re that crazy about lavender, then just take a bath with some Calgon after.

Recipe:

1 ½ cups of ice
2 ounces of gin
¾ of an ounce of lemon juice
½ of an ounce of simple syrup
1 cup of ice
2 ounces of club soda
1 lemon wedge

Take a Collins glass, fill it with the 1 ½ cups of ice, then place it in the freezer. Now grab your cocktail shaker, fill it with the rest of the ice, and add the gin, juice, and syrup. Shake vigorously until chilled, then strain over your Collins glass. Top it off with the club soda, then garnish with the lemon wedge.

The Margarita and Any Variations Thereof

There’s a reason margaritas are popular at tropical resorts and spring break hotspots. For one thing, they’re delicious. For another, they’re classic. For yet another, margaritas are potent. You can get ripped without even realizing that you’re well past the point of tipsy. There’s nothing like sipping at a salty rim under the heat of the sun, especially when you know everybody back home’s drowning in the rain or buried beneath the snow.

Recipe:

1 ounce of Cointreau, triple sec, or any other orange liqueur
1 ½ ounces of Blanco tequila
¾ of an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice
Kosher salt

Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, then add everything but the salt and shake vigorously. Chill a rocks glass, rim it with salt, then add ice and strain the mixture into it. Garnish with a wheel of lime.

The Strawberry Sunrise

Anything with tequila goes over big during spring break, no matter where you happen to be partying down at the time. Tequila, after all, is the patron drink of bad decisions. This is a fun, refreshing take on the traditional tequila sunrise, though, mostly thanks to all the strawberries—they really make a difference. They also help to create a truly beautiful drink, and today’s spring breakers like to Instagram their spirits before slamming them.

Recipe:

4 ounces of freshly squeezed orange juice
3 ounces of fresh, sliced strawberries
2 ounces of tequila
1 ounce of agave syrup
1 teaspoon of Grand Marnier
A dash of freshly squeezed lemon juice
An orange wheel for garnish
A fresh strawberry for garnish
A sprig of mint for garnish

Place the OJ and strawberries in your blender, then pulse them until they’re pureed. Strain the mixture into your cocktail shaker, then add tequila, the agave syrup, and ice. Shake until the shaker gets frosty. Pour into a glass, add a dash of lemon juice, then place your garnish.

The Raspberry Mojito

The mojito’s popularity doesn’t seem to be in danger of fading anytime soon. People love this fresh, minty concoction, so it’s no surprise that alternate versions abound. The spring break crowd is partial to this variation, and so are we. In fact, if you enjoy mojitos and raspberries, then it’s entirely probably that you’ll never again order another regular mojito.

Recipe:

1 ounce of raspberry vodka
1 ounce of silver rum
½ of an ounce of simple syrup
½ of an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice
4 fresh mint leaves
4 fresh raspberries
2 ounces of club soda
Ice

In your cocktail shaker, muddle together the mint, raspberries, syrup, and lime juice. Add ice, then pour in the rum and vodka. Shake vigorously, then pour the drink into a Tom Collins glass and top it off with the club soda.

The Hurricane

The Hurricane really is a hurricane. It’s like a not-quite-natural-disaster in a glass, which explains why students on spring break are fond of it. It’s sweet, tasty, and refreshing, but it will get you lit like nobody’s business. It’s the perfect poolside cocktail, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s pretty.

Recipe:

2 ounces of white rum
2 ounces of dark rum
1 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce of freshly squeezed orange juice
1 ounce of fresh passion fruit juice
½ of an ounce of simple syrup
½ of an ounce of grenadine
1 orange wheel for garnish
1 cherry for garnish

Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, then add everything except the fruit. Shake hard, then strain the drink into a Hurricane glass, which you should fill with ice. Garnish with the orange and cherry, then enjoy.

The Cucumber Cooler Cocktail Keeps You Chill

Cucumber is always a good idea, especially in the spring and summer. That’s why spas serve cucumber water—not only does it taste refreshing, but it helps to keep you hydrated, too. See why this is the perfect day drinking cocktail? You get buzzed, but you’re also getting some hydration in there, which significantly decreases the risk that you’ll end up camped out in front of the TV at 5 o’clock in the evening, hungover and watching HGTV in the dark.

Recipe:

1 ½ ounces of gin
4-6 cucumber slices
¼ of a lime, sliced
4 ounces of tonic water
6 mint leaves
1 tablespoon of sugar, optional

Place the gin, lime, mint, and sugar in your shaker, then muddle. Add the cucumber slices and shake hard. Fill a glass with ice and pour in the mixture, then top it off with the tonic water. Stir it, give the flavors a few moments to sit, then drink.

The Bourbon Cherry Cooler Is Cherry

Anything with cherries is a winner. Granted, you can basically use any kind of fruit, but if the combination of cherries and bourbon doesn’t do it for you … well, what’s the matter with you? Seriously, though, this drink will likely put you in mind of a slow-moving Savannah morning, even if you live in New England.

Recipe:

2 ounces of bourbon
½ of an ounce of Aperol
1 ounce of lemon juice
¾ of an ounce of simple syrup (just mix equal parts water and sugar)
2 ounces of sparkling water
8 cherries, pitted

Place the cherries in a cocktail shaker, along with the syrup, then muddle until you’ve crushed the cherries. Pour in the bourbon, Aperol, and lemon juice, then fill the shaker with some ice and shake vigorously. Fill a glass with ice, then strain in the mixture and top it off with the water.

Grapefruit Mimosas Are Sort Of Like Breakfast

Mimosas are a traditional day drink anyway. Specifically, they’re largely considered the ideal brunch drink. Add grapefruit, however, and they’re almost healthy. Grapefruit, in fact, practically turns mimosas into breakfast. If you think that’s a stretch, just drink one or two of these and we bet you’ll change your mind.

Recipe:

1 chilled bottle of Prosecco
3-3 ½ cups of chilled, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
Simple syrup or sweetener, optional

Get a big pitcher, pour in the Prosecco, then pour in the grapefruit juice. Stir, taste to see if it needs sweetener—the grapefruit can get a bit bitter—and serve when you’re happy.

The White Thyme Stops Time

This drink is next level classy. Seriously, if you ever want to impress somebody with whom you’re out day drinking, order this—or make it, whatever. You might have to explain it to the bartender, but whatever, it’s worth it. Not only is it impressive and neat-looking, it also tastes divine, especially if you’re into hipster-ish kinds of cocktails.

Recipe:

3 ounces of your favorite white wine
3 tablespoons of wildflower honey
3 sprigs of thyme
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
3 dashes of Angostura bitters

Muddle together the honey, thyme, and lemon juice in your shaker, then add the wine and bitters. Stir until the flavors, especially the honey, are totally incorporated, then strain into a glass filled with ice.

The Classic Mimosa

Anything that uses orange juice is sure to cure your hangover, correct? That’s the train of thought, anyway. It really does make sense, however. Mimosas are a popular brunch drink because they’re light, there’s some citrus in there, and they get you buzzed, not drunk. Sip one, maybe two, on the morning after your big drinking debacle, and it’s likely to soothe your hangover enough to make the day bearable.

Recipe:

2 ounces of orange juice
4 ounces of champagne

Making mimosas is pretty easy. Basically, you’re just filling a champagne flute with orange juice and topping it off with the champagne. Some people add a teaspoon of Grand Marnier or a dash of bitters.

A Bloody Mary

A Bloody Mary is practically a meal in a glass. The addition of all those vegetables helps to make it an excellent hair of the dog cocktail. If it doesn’t necessarily cure your hangover, you’ll at least forget about it. Seriously, though, the Tabasco serves a purpose in this instance—all that spice is actually good for what ails. You might even want to add a little extra pepper.

Recipe:
1 ½ ounces of vodka
3 ounces of tomato juice
The juice of one lemon
½ of a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
3 drops of Tabasco sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
¼ of a teaspoon of celery salt
½ of a tablespoon of prepared horseradish (optional)
Lemon or lime wedges, celery, or green onions for garnish

First off, salt the rim using lemon or lime juice, if you like. Next, fill a glass with ice, then pour in the vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, the seasonings, and the horseradish if you’re using it. Mix everything together, then garnish.

The Silver Fizz

Have you ever had an egg-based cocktail? If not, then the Silver Fizz is the perfect first, especially if you’re suffering from a hangover. The egg—well, the egg white if we’re getting technical—is responsible for the richness of the cocktail, and that richness is what helps to combat the hangover. Of course, plenty of dry gin doesn’t hurt, either.

Recipe:

2 ounces of dry gin
1 egg white
½ of a tablespoon of superfine sugar
½ of an ounce of lemon juice

To make ice using this technique, the “boil it twice, freeze it hot” approach, you … boil the water twice and freeze it while it’s still hot. The thought is that boiling the water two times eliminates the impurities that can lead to cloudy ice. That’s not entirely true, unfortunately. Yes, boiling it twice will get rid of impurities in the water. However, the cubes may still look cloudy once they’re frozen. The good news is that you can reduce that effect by combining this freezing method with larger ice molds. Large pieces of ice don’t melt as quickly, anyway.

The Juice Carton Trick

Do you have an empty juice carton? Are you in need of large chunks of ice? Huge cubes of ice are cool in a mod kind of way. You can easily make your own, and you don’t even need to buy anything special. Take those empty cartons and cut them down into the shape of a cube. Fill them up with water—twice boiled or otherwise—and stow them in the freezer. Do it well ahead of the party, of course, but once the guests arrive, you’ll have some impressive hunks of ice.

Ice in a Pan

This ice cube challenge is easy, and it will absolutely result in crystal clear ice cubes. The Pisco Sour is a classic South American cocktail, but it specifically originated in Peru. It’s one of those drinks that perfectly displays both the art and science of mixology. Put aside any skepticism about the idea of drinking raw eggs because, honestly, it’s just an egg white. The look of the cocktail depends on that egg white, though—you’re basically turning it into meringue, just to get the foam for the top layer.

Recipe:

3 ounces of pisco
1 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice
¾ of an ounce of simple syrup
1 egg white
1 dash of Angostura bitters

Place everything except the bitters in your cocktail shaker and then shake it to death. Seriously, shake the crap out of your cocktail shaker. You have to stretch, mix, scramble, and ultimately aerate the egg white proteins. Now, add ice to your shaker and—yep–shake it all again. When you’re finally ready to strain it, grab an Old Fashioned glass and pour. You’ll know you did it correctly if there’s foam topping the drink. Throw on a dash of bitters and serve.

The Prairie Oyster cocktail is not for the faint of heart. Fans of the drink claim that it’s the best hangover cure in the world, though. We guess it works around the old “hair of the dog” premise, or maybe the egg does something. We don’t know because we will never drink this. However, we’re eager to hear about the experiences of anyone who’s survived this spicy, savory, eggy concoction.

Ingredients:

1 entire egg, the yolk and the white
1 ounce of vodka
2 dashes of vinegar
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon of ketchup
2 dashes of Tabasco sauce
Pinch of salt and pepper

Crack the egg into your glass, being careful to keep the yolk intact. Pour in the rest of the ingredients. Think about your life choices. Down it in one.

3. Clover Club

The Clover Club is a precious cocktail. Seriously, it is unbelievably pretty. It’s also quite refreshing, mostly thanks to the lemon juice. Once again, you only have to deal with the egg white. This is another drink that requires that foamy meringue effect, so hopefully you’re ready to shake.

Recipe:

1 ½ ounces of gin
¼ of an ounce of grenadine
¾ of an ounce of fresh lemon juice
1 egg white

Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, add all of the ingredients, and shake forever—or for around 30 seconds, that’ll do for a start. Once you get your foam on, strain the drink into a cocktail glass, preferably chilled. Raspberries are a favorite garnish for the Clover Club, by the way.

4. Ramos Gin Fizz

Don’t go thinking you know anything about fizz cocktails if you’ve only had a Gin Fizz. That’s small potatoes compared to a Ramos Gin Fizz. Whereas the traditional gin drink is a simple mixture of gin, sugar, and lemon juice, the Ramos is more complicated, more exotic, and maybe even more delicious—it all comes down to personal taste, of course. There are several variations of the cocktail; not all of them require heavy cream, so if you don’t have it, don’t worry too much.

Recipe:

2 ounces of gin
½ of an ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ of an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice
1 egg white
1 ounce of heavy cream
2 teaspoons of superfine sugar
½ of a teaspoon of orange flower water
Club soda, chilled
Ice

Without adding ice to your cocktail shaker, pour in the gin, both citrus juices, the cream, the sugar, the egg white, and the orange flower water. Shake it hard and fast for 15 seconds or so. Stop, add some ice—a handful should suffice—and shake the cocktail shaker again, just as vigorously. Another 15 seconds should do it, but the key is to make sure that the outside of the shaker is frosty. Strain the mixture into a chilled glass—usually a highball glass or a Collins glass, but anything will do—and top it off with the club soda.

5. Round Robin

So, in addition to containing an egg white, the Round Robin has absinthe. We warned you. Drink at your own discretion. Fans of this cocktail recommend using Corsair Artisan Red Absinthe if you enjoy floral flavors, but any kind of absinthe you can get your hands on tastes fine. You won’t really notice after the first cocktail, anyway.

Recipe:

1 egg white, preferably a large one
1 ounce of absinthe
1 ounce of brandy
1 teaspoon of simple syrup
1 dash of orange bitters

Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, add everything, and shake vigorously. Once the outside of the shaker looks pretty frosty, strain the mixture into a chilled glass.

There. We made it all the way through wit just one egg yolk. Knowing that the lemon juice and alcohol “cook” the egg helps a little, right?

Recipe:

1 part melon liqueur
1 part Malibu Rum
1 part blue curacao
3 edible flowers
2 sprigs of mint

Fill a glass with ice, then pour in the melon liqueur, the rum, and the blue curacao, in that order. Garnish with the mint sprigs and the edible flowers.

Never Gulp Down the Golden Goldeen

Goldeen is kind of fierce, you know? Just look at that stare. It’s no wonder that this glamorous Pokémon inspired a glitzy drink. It’s probably the only classy cocktail you’ll find that has its roots in Pokémon culture, and it’s not just classy because of the color. The ingredients list is pretty opulent, as well. Don’t worry about the cordial – the bitters will balance the sweetness.

Recipe:
40 milliliters of Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva
15 milliliters of grapefruit cordial
15 milliliters of Cocchi Americano
Two dashes of Angostura bitters

Fill a large glass with ice. Pour in all the ingredients – that’s it. You can garnish it with a lovely twist of grapefruit zest for some extra pizzazz if you like.

The Poliwag Martini: Swirled, Not Stirred

So, the Poliwag Martini is strong – as in, don’t drink more than two of these and try to play Pokémon Go or you’ll probably end up in the middle of a pond looking for Goldeen up there. Mind-numbing, world-spinning strength aside, this is actually a damn good martini. There’s something about that Elderflower liqueur – it makes this cocktail.

Recipe:

15 milliliters of gin
15 milliliters of St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
15 milliliters of Lillet Blanc
20 milliliters lemon
A bit of egg white
Blueberries for garnish

Grab a Boston shaker, add all the ingredients except the blueberries, and shimmy. Strain the drink into your martini glass, then garnish it with the blueberries.
